Moderator

Sergio M. Savaresi

Professor, Automatic Control at Politecnico di Milano, Italy

Sergio M. Savaresi received the M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Politecnico di Milano, 1992), the
Ph.D. in Systems and Control Engineering (Politecnico di Milano, 1996), and the M.Sc. in Applied
Mathematics (Catholic University, Brescia, 2000). After the Ph.D. he worked as management
consultant at McKinsey&Co, Milan Office. He is Full Professor in Automatic Control at Politecnico
di Milano since 2006 . He is Deputy Director and Chair of the Systems&Control Section of
Department of Electronics, Computer Sciences and Bioengineering (DEIB), Politecnico di Milano.
He is author of more than 500 scientific publications. His main interests are in the areas of vehicles
control, automotive systems, data analysis and system identification, non-linear control theory, and
control applications, with special focus on smart mobility. He has been manager and technical
leader of more than 400 research projects in cooperation with private companies. He is co-founder
of 8 high-tech startup companies.

Keynote Speakers

Sasu Tarkoma

Professor, Computer Science at the University of Helsinki

Sasu Tarkoma is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Helsinki and Head of the Department of Computer Science. He is also Director of the Helsinki Center for Data Science (HiDATA) and affiliated with the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT. He is Fellow of IET and EAI.  He has authored 4 textbooks and has published over 200 scientific articles.  He has ten granted US Patents. His research has received a number of Best Paper awards and mentions, for example at IEEE PerCom, ACM CCR, and ACM OSR. As an example flagship research project, he is leading the MegaSense project, which aims at deploying a wide array of urban air-monitoring stations and employing the data within prediction models.

Gonçalo H. A. Correia

Associate Professor at the Department of Transport & Planning at TU Delft, Netherlands

Gonçalo H. A. Correia is currently leading the hEAT lab (Research on Automated and Electric Transport). His main research interest is in the planning and operations of transport systems in urban environments with the objective of sustainable development. He focuses particularly on the use of Transport Demand Management strategies and innovative services, such as ridesharing and carsharing, to tackle urban congestion, which he studies mainly using operations research with a particular focus on optimization and simulation techniques. At TU Delft he is looking at the impacts of automated driving and electric vehicles on mobility and urban development.

Martin Russ

Managing Director,  AustriaTech, Ltd.

Martin Russ has been Managing Director of AustriaTech since 2011. He is the visionary heart of the company. Under his leadership, AustriaTech’s areas of responsibility were expanded to include activities relating to “Automated and Clean Mobility”. With the new structure of the ITS Austria the management will also act as Secretary General for the ITS Austria platform. He can look back on more than 25 years of expertise in the field of traffic planning and mobility technologies. He acts as chair of the European Network of ITS Associations, and co chairs the topic of digital infrastructure within the trilateral WG on CAD. Since July 2019 he is part of the Mission Board for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities within the Horizon Europe research
program.
